"It's not just a martial art, it's a way of life"

Body Language

BodyLanguageBody Language describes non-verbal communication by the means of subconscious gestures, movement and physical attitudes. non-verbal communication makes up to 55% of the signals we send out. These signals send out subconscious messages that effect the way in which others portray us.

In most traditional martial arts a close-fisted guard is used for defence, however this sends out conflicting messages when the intended purpose is self-defence. The close fists sends out a subconscious message of wanting to fight. Shoto-Chi uses a dynamic technique known as the “fence“. This demonstrates the intent to resolve the conflict in a non physical manner, but also emits a strong message of authority and confidence.

How we portray ourselves to others, in most cases determines the outcome. The situation could be friendly or hostile, but by learning how to emit the correct body language in the right environment, could be the difference between getting the result you do want versus the result you do not.
